For over two decades, the villagers of Babapur, Asifabad, lived under the shadow of darkness. BC Wada Street and the area surrounding Pochamma Temple, essential parts of the community, were without streetlights. As night fell, these streets turned unsafe, plunging the village into a sense of uncertainty. For the 20 households scattered across BC Wada Street, the absence of lighting was more than just an inconvenience—it posed serious safety risks. The villagers lived in fear, uncertain of what the darkness might conceal.
The Threat of Darkness
As the sun set, the once-vibrant village transformed into a place of dread. Mothers hesitated to let their children play outside, concerned for their safety. The elderly, often forced to move in and out of their homes, were vulnerable to accidents in the poorly lit areas. Women who worked late into the evening had to tread carefully, knowing the lack of streetlights increased the risks of crime and accidents. The absence of light did more than just affect the streets; it darkened the very spirit of the community. Life in Babapur had become a daily challenge, made all the more difficult by the fear and insecurity that nightfall brought.
Recognizing the pressing needs for change, CYDA collaborated with the villagers to address the lighting issue. Community meetings have been held to understand the specific needs of Babapur and how they could make a real, lasting impact. It was clear that the lack of streetlights was not just an inconvenience but a barrier to the well-being and security of the village’s residents. CYDA’s took a proactive approach to solve the problem by installing solar streetlights in key areas. The first focus was on BC Wada Street and the vicinity of Pochamma Temple, which had long been dark and unsafe. A detailed plan was drawn up and the project began with the aim of transforming these areas into well-lit, secure spaces for the community.
The Transformation Begins
Over the course of just a few weeks, the transformation was underway. Villagers watched with anticipation as solar panels were installed, poles erected and wires carefully connected. The solar streetlights, each equipped with 20-watt Solar Semi-Integrated lights powered by advanced Li-Fe Po4 batteries and MPPT Charge Controllers, began to come to life. These solar lights were designed to be efficient and sustainable, with the ability to harness energy from the sun even on overcast days. As the lights gradually illuminated the streets, a profound change began to take shape in Babapur.
A New Beginning for Babapur
The transformation was immediate. The once-dark streets of BC Wada are now illuminated by the soft, powerful glow of solar streetlights. The fear that had once gripped the village at night began to fade. The elderly could walk freely without fear, while children who had been kept indoors after sunset could now play outside safely. Women no longer worried about their security when moving after dark. The solar lights did not just brighten the streets—they brought hope, confidence, and a renewed sense of safety to the hearts of the villagers.
Voices from ground
“I can finally walk without fear,” said a relieved resident, as she gazed up at the shining lights above.
Another villager added, “These lights have brought us security and hope. It is not just about light—it is about living without fear.”
Empowering the Community for Sustainability
The involvement did not stop at installation, as it understood that long-term success depended on empowering the community. “CYDA’s team conducted training sessions to ensure the villagers could maintain and repair the solar lights independently. A team of community resource persons has been trained in solar technology and light maintenance, providing the village with the skills necessary to keep the lights shining for years to come. The training included the installation of ladders and the provision of repair kits, ensuring that the solar streetlights would continue to function even in the future. This holistic approach solved the immediate lighting problem and also empowered the community to take charge of their own well-being.

Beacon of Progress
The transformation in Babapur extends far beyond the glow of solar streetlights. This initiative has sparked a wave of positive change, strengthening community bonds and inspiring resilience. The lights serve as a powerful symbol of collective effort and the belief that progress is achievable, even in the face of great challenges. Today, Babapur shines not only with sustainable energy but with a renewed spirit of hope, unity, and determination for a brighter future.
