Anushka Misal’s fearless spirit and determination show what it truly means to take on life with hope, even when things get tough. Her journey proves that no matter how big the challenges, you can rise above them with strength and confidence. Anushka reminds us that real success is not about fitting in—it is about staying true to yourself and lifting others up. Her story is an inspiring reminder for young people to believe in their potential and tackle life’s challenges head-on.

A childhood marked by loss and sacrifice

Raised in a modest household at Tadiwala Road, Anushka Misal’s, early years were marked by profound loss. The death of her father left her mother as the sole provider for the family. Despite the challenges, her mother worked tirelessly as a housekeeper at Sahyadri Hospital, earning a minimal income to support her children—Anushka and her younger brother, Karan. By nature, she is kind-hearted but also quick-tempered and disinterested in academics. Her sacrifices were a testament to her unwavering strength and love.

Struggles of childhood and lessons in strength

Life was never easy for Anushka. As a child, she was kind-hearted, quick to make friends, but also quick-tempered. The challenges of growing up in such an environment led her to feel disconnected from her education. She struggled to find motivation and purpose in school, often disinterested in academics. The loss of her father and the burden on her mother weighed heavily on her, yet Anushka never lost her sense of love and gratitude for the sacrifices her mother made. In the face of adversity, she learnt the true value of strength—how to endure and keep moving forward, even when the path ahead seemed uncertain.

Captivated by the opportunities education offered, she eagerly absorbed knowledge and shared her enthusiasm with friends, encouraging them to join the CRC. Engaging deeply in CYDA’s programs, Anushka participated in remedial classes, honed her communication skills, and embraced leadership roles. Overcoming obstacles

Anushka’s transformation was challenging. In a community where girls were expected to follow traditional roles, she faced resistance and discouragement from those who questioned her ambitions. However, she remained determined, refusing to let society’s narrow expectations hold her back. Her involvement in “Avaaz Hamari,” where she represented the Tadiwala community, became a defining moment. She emerged as both a voice for her community and a symbol of boldness, expressing herself freely and championing the rights of her peers.

Anushka also embraced her love for dance, a passion that was once overlooked by those who felt it was not useful. She took it upon herself to teach others, spreading joy, energy, and knowledge. Her dedication to dance became an outlet for self-expression and a way to empower others.

CRC – A hope and transformation

HCNF supported CRC played a pivotal role in Anushka’s growth. It was more than just a resource center; it was a place of hope and possibility. The education, mentorship, and life skills provided by CYDA gave Anushka the confidence to stand up for herself and aspire for more. The CRC gave her the tools to build a future where she could rewrite the narrative of her life, one that was no longer defined by loss and hardship, but by hope and achievement.

Triumph and Aspiration

Anushka’s hard work and determination did not go unnoticed. She was honored as the Student of the Year at her school—a testament to her resilience, dedication, and determination. But honours were not her only motivation. Anushka had bigger dreams, ones that stretched beyond the walls of her school.  ( This story is a contribution from Kalyani Mudaliar, Documentation Officer at CYDA)
