Unlocking Career Possibilities in Media4Change

As a child, have you ever been asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The usual responses would be a teacher, doctor, engineer, or police officer. However, the reality is that there are over 250 career paths available in India, and most students are unaware of these opportunities.

Priyashankar Ghosh, a well-known Photographer from the film industry, shares his personal experience of discovering his passion for photography through CYDA’s Youth Festival. This encounter opened his eyes to a world of possibilities, transforming his life forever.

CYDA (Centre for Youth Development and Activities) recognized the need for career guidance and exposure to unconventional opportunities. To address this gap, CYDA launched the Media4Change platform, providing students with a chance to explore visual and print media, film production, journalism, and more.

One of the initiatives under Media4Change is the filmmaking workshop, introduced in 2007. Led by Prof. P.K. Nair and Prof. K.V. Kurien, this program equipped young aspirants with technical knowledge and practical skills in filmmaking.

The workshop’s holistic approach included 12 modules, covering scriptwriting, cinematography, art direction, sound recording, and editing. Participants gained hands-on experience, creating their own documentaries on social issues and transformative stories.

CYDA’s initiative has paved the way for many aspiring filmmakers. Several participants secured admission to FTII, while others made a mark in the industry. The program not only nurtured creativity but also empowered participants to turn their passion into successful careers.

CYDA continues to inspire young people to explore unconventional industries, providing exposure, training, and opportunities. By doing so, CYDA has opened new doors for countless individuals, proving that with the right platform, today’s youth can achieve extraordinary things.

As Natasha Ginwala, Renowned Art Curator/Writer/Editor, shares her experience, “The caravan served as a means of collective resistance and documenting farmer challenges… This was a thrilling experience and exposure for me.”

CYDA’s Media4Change initiative is a testament to the power of career guidance and exposure to unconventional opportunities. By unlocking career possibilities, CYDA is empowering the next generation to achieve their dreams and make a mark in the world.
